I don't have nearly the issues with cutting out a new Regency as I do with cutting out a new 16th c Italian gown.

Maybe some $4 sheets from Kmart? I have used those as a mock up for an Elizabethan Surcote. The twin sheets work fine.Isabellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01420037377392425312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7565541959216358834.post-43838196515014942812011-04-13T09:03:29.628-07:002011-04-13T09:03:29.628-07:00Yeah, normally that's what I would do, the pro...Yeah, normally that's what I would do, the problem that the bottom half of the gown is so heavy leaving it off actually makes a huge difference in how the neck, shoulder and armscye behave. I ran into this problem with the first one I did a number years ago and made some rather poor pattern decisions as a result. Hence the linen-dress-as-mock-up approach. Either one I end up with will be good and wearable.

p.s. Your new regency is adorable! I've got all the stuff laying around to do a recency sprigged muslin dress, just need an excuse to make it!Heidihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07276734851732074959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7565541959216358834.post-68330397543518368362011-04-13T07:55:08.970-07:002011-04-13T07:55:08.970-07:00make a mock up out of muslin of just the bodice pa...make a mock up out of muslin of just the bodice part to your natural waist. It should give you a good idea of what the fabric will do and what cuts will work -and you don't end up crying when it doesn't come out just as you thought it would because no one cries over 50 cent muslin! ;-)Isabellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01420037377392425312noreply@blogger.com
